Writer’s Accountability Group

Have weeks or months or even years gone by and you still haven’t made progress on your book? You can’t stop thinking about it, but you can’t get yourself to start writing?

The Writer’s Accountability Group (WAG) is the perfect place for you!

What is WAG?

WAG is a 3-month program designed to help you get laser-focused on your writing goals by providing accountability and encouragement for writing your book, short story, poetry, or even your blog.

By participating, you will take part in a real-time accountability system to get your writing off the ground, as well as access to a private Facebook group to build community with other writers. It’s your hub for weekly check-ins to announce your schedule, celebrate your progress, or even get support on a way-too-hectic week.

It’s like enrolling in a writing coaching program WITHOUT the expensive price tag.

The next 3-month session starts on May 1st!

How does it work?

You’ll accelerate your writing by following these simple steps:

1. Schedule your writing sessions.

2. Post your schedule in the Facebook group.

3. Write during your scheduled writing time.

4. Then tell the group about your progress, so we can celebrate with you!

Real-time accountability

The Happy Self-Publisher has partnered with Focusmate to bring you a system for real-time accountability. Focusmate is a unique online platform using an interface similar to Zoom.

Schedule a 50-minute time slot any time of the day or night to work on your writing, and you’ll be paired with one writer from our group.

At the end of the session, you’ll accumulate 50 minutes’ worth of uninterrupted writing time and the words to prove it!

The 50 minutes are silent, so no need to worry about interruptions or awkward interactions. It’s like going to the library with a friend but without distraction.

Our process. Your victory.

Schedule 3 sessions a week through Focusmate (or on your own, if you prefer), check in with the WAG group on Facebook to post your schedule, and share your successes with the other participants. Cheer on other writers while you’re there to create a positive, fun atmosphere.

You’ll join the group of writers and aspiring authors as a cohort during the 3-month session so you can build the oh-so-important community that writers need to thrive. Whether you’re looking for fellow travelers on the writing path or need a push to launch your next writing project, community is the key to the journey.

In addition, we’ll keep you on track with a library of articles, videos, and podcasts that you can peruse at your leisure to enhance and guide your experience.

You’ll also receive #MondayMotivation quotes in your inbox to start your week off right.

BONUSES!

In addition to the accountability and support in the Facebook group, you’ll have these additional opportunities to build community:

Each month, you’ll have access to a group Zoom session to share your victories with the group, to give support to fellow writers and foster connections within the community. You might even win some prizes! It’s a full interactive event.

You’ll also have access to a Zoom open mic night! If you’re up for it, you can share your writing with other writers and listen to how they present their writing to you. It’s a great opportunity to gain skills by reading AND listening.

You’ll also receive a writing goals and word tracker worksheet to keep you focused and inspired as your word count rises.

writers accountability group

I’ve been asked, why would someone pay a membership fee to write a book?

If you write consistently and thrive writing on your own, this may not be as useful to you. BUT if writing a book is a dream, and you can’t seem to make time or find the motivation, this program, our group, may be just what you need to start AND finish your book. How great is that going to feel?

Do I have to use Focusmate to schedule my writing time?

No. You can schedule time on your own, if you are more comfortable. But you may want to try it first to find out if it’s right for you. Personally, I think it’s about the best tool I’ve used to keep me focused and on task. That’s why I’ve incorporated it into this program. You’ll be paired with a member of our group or, if none are available, a member of the Focusmate community. The participation bonus is only for writers using Focusmate along with Facebook group participation, but you’ll still benefit from the accountability and community aspect of the WAG program.

Focusmate is one of the tools we use help hold you accountable for showing up to a writing session. Yes, you can do it on your own. But WAG group is designed to keep you motivated and engaged in scheduling and then celebrating your progress. We know from the science on motivation, that it’s easier to stick to a habit when we have others to participate with us. The community aspect gives you added accountability to really get done what you’ve been setting out to do for months or even years. You’ll be able to connect with so many people with similar aspirations and struggles.

Can anyone join even if they’ve never written before?

Absolutely! We welcome new and experienced writers to the group. All we ask is that you come with enthusiasm and a willingness to set writing goals and work to achieve them, whatever your level. We’ll give you a hint for how to set your goals, but you can shoot for the moon or take more gradual approach. Either way, it’s progress you’ve been struggling to make.

Do I have to be on Facebook to participate?

To gain the full benefit of the program, you’ll want to participate in the Facebook group. It’s the power of the group that creates the turbo boost to your writing.

Do I have to share my writing?

No. You won’t share your writing in the Facebook group. You’ll have the opportunity to read your writing during the open mic nights, but participation is not required.

How often do I need to post in the Facebook group?

We recommend you post your writing schedule once a week and post at least one other time each week to share your progress and cheer on another writer. We’d love to have you participate more and as soon as you finish a writing session so you can feel the double rush of endorphins associated with your big accomplishment. It will reinforce the positive feedback loop to keep you pushing for more!

Will anyone give me feedback on my writing?

Feedback isn’t part of your WAG membership, but you’ll have opportunities to sign up for critiques, editing, and coaching on fiction and nonfiction work during the program at an additional fee. It’s an optional service for writer’s who want to know if they are on the right track.

When does the session start?

This session starts on May 1, 2021 and goes until July 31, 2021.

Can I get a refund?

There is a 7-day money-back guarantee from the first day of the session. Of course, it’s hard to create a habit and reach your goals in 7 days. We think once you get going, you’re going to love it!

Do I need a book coach help me write my book?

If you have ever struggled with getting started, getting stuck, or knowing what to say or how to say it, a book coach can help. A book coach will help you uncover why you are writing a book, who you are writing it for, and help you organize the material to have the most impact or tell the best story. Your book coach will keep you motivated and focused on your goals for the book and set you on a path to successful publication and launch.

Coaches will specialize in fiction or nonfiction or a particular genre and will help you develop your unique voice and style regardless of the type of book you are writing. Coaching sessions are a great space to ask a lot of questions and get feedback on your writing.

All of this information can be overwhelming. Writing, publishing, and then book marketing doesn’t have to feel that way when you find a partner to guide you through the process.

Please ask if you would prefer one-on-one coaching. Send me an email or schedule a session with me to explore your options.

Do you have questions?

If you still have questions about how joining the group can help you reach your goals, schedule a complimentary 30-minute Discovery Session, and we’ll talk about the best options for you. If you rather shoot me an email, use the contact form below.
